From my point of view, this CD is user friendly and is a big aid to all students out there who are in Year 2 as a method of learning. For a start, this program asks student’s ID such as name and class before entering to the next part. The program provokes attention from students with colorful background and moving animation, brightness, sound and graphics throughout the program. Before moving to the next topics, students are provided with an activity such as games to test their comprehension about previous topic. Besides that, this program has cognitive curiosity in terms of giving partial information, stimulating and desire to know. For example, when students gave inappropriate answers, there is a background sound that will tell them it is wrong and they curious to know the true answers. The students also can use the information they are learning even by fantasy as the program encourage them to envision themselves in an imaginary context or event.Students have to complete the activity that is provided according to the time that is set up early on.
For interaction and feedback part, the program reinforces the correct answer with positive feedback such as say “good “,”excellent”, “congratulation” and other if students give the correct answer. Unfortunately, there is no explanation to the student who gave incorrect answers and it seems make the student confuse and they cannot find the correct answers. So, that is why the students have no special remediation to an error answer. From learner control, the student can be active, collaborative and reflective in knowledge instruction throughout the activities in this program. Students too can exit from the program at any time because the quit icon is supplied on the top of the slide.From curriculum aspect, the content of the program fit well and suitable for the local school curriculum at the grade level for which it is intended as well as all information almost factually correct. The vocabulary level is compatible with the reading level of the intended student users. For instance, there is e-dictionary in another part of the program so that users can find the word that they not understand or know easily.
On the other aspect, the presentation of the content of the program is logical and well-organized because it is delivered according to main ideas or the big picture and followed with supporting ideas. But, this program did not require learners to complete certain base tasks before they are allowed to move on proceeding through the content. It also not requires specific steps to perform the motor skills to the learner. This CD program has some advantages as well such as the fonts that are used or chosen for legibility. Then, it helps learners to develop their understanding by providing useful links such as e-dictionary and instructions. Furthermore, each screen includes a well laid out combination of text and graphics or animation which work together in order to make a main point clears. For technical aspects, this program has a record keeping system and record management system is easy to use. But, students have no recording of identifying specific difficulties.
In my point of view, these are the important and crucial criteria that need to be put forward when selecting this kind of learning methods such as CD-ROM for English Year 2. This CD program has its weaknesses that can be overcome and the strength that can benefit the students using it.
